we have recently come back from building a garden at Chelsea! This time it was for another design company called Aralia Design and the garden was designed by their lead designer and proprietor, Patricia Fox.

The garden was called ‘Rooftop Workplace of Tomorrow’ and was sponsored by RBS and Walworth Garden Farm. This cutting edge commercial work place roof top grden was the first of its type to ever exhibit at the Chelsea Flower Show!  Alot of the materials are new both to us and to the industry so it was great to be among the first to be using them!

Designer, Patricia Fox teamed up with Toshiba to integrate high tech gadgets all connected by wi-fi to a large plasma TV screen.

The garden was based on a modular design – each module linked to the other by recycled bamboo decking. Green roofs and green walls add vertical and horizontal interest whilst semi mature trees ground the design. Bird song is piped through the garden and calming water feautures and rills add to the relaxing atmosphere ideal for the stressed out workaholic!

This sort of facility on top of city buildings will no doubt give the wow factor as well as adding a more eco friendly approach to working and no doubt the Royal Bank of Scotland will be tempted after sponsoring such a garden to create something similar for their work force.

To get a Silver medal for such a concept was a great achievement and Giles Landscapes were honoured to be part of this exciting and innovating build and we were all delighted with the amount of TV coverage it got.

We could well see areas such Cambridge Science Parks who is one of our clients applying some of this new technology and thinking for their work force in the future!
