One of our latest projects has been to plant and build a learning garden for Milton Road Primary School in Cambridge. Our brief was to design a water feature and dry garden aswell as the planting design for the whole garden.

The garden aims to act as a learning tool that accompanies the curriculum whilst teaching the children to respect plant life.

There is a world garden which takes the children on a journey of plants around some of the most famous ancient civilisations. We have used a lot of non hybrid varieties to stay true to the history of each plant and area and to enable the children to see and feel the same plants as the people from these civilisations would have.  We also felt it was important to include a section on our own native plants to underline the importance of these often overlooked species. They have such a rich and fascinating history as well as a very important role to play in the conservation of our wildlife.

Other areas include a jungle garden, Tudor and Victorian borders and a sensory area with interesting textures and smells including a taste area with edible flowers, herbs and vegetables.

We have just finished the first stage of the build and the remainder should be completed by next term.

Hopefully this garden will provide the children of Milton Road Primary School with a great interactive learning accompaniment.
