A student from Greenwich Universtiy contacted us recently with regard to the work we carried out on Gunpowder Park. She is studying for a degree in garden design, in her third year and the course she is doing at the moment is 'Professional studies'. Her assignment is to see how teams from different disciplines, with different roles and contributions work together to achieve results.
Gunpowder Park was a very complex site.
1) There was 1 metre of clay laid forming a protection layer to prevent existing toxins leeching to the surface, which in turn presented some drainage problems.
2) All planting was done in pure subsoil.
3) 'Biogram' (human sewage pellets). Plus ‘fungus inoculants’ was used to promote soil population to counter sub soil. The results from this was exceptional growth rate with very few plant losses.
4) 36 hectares wild flowers and grass from 'Emorgate' seed, established well in the subsoil
Regular liaisons and good relationships between Giles Landscapes and the contractors (Halcro Engineers, David Thompson LDA & Lee Valley Park) allowed any problems that were flagged up to be resolved effectively. This was achieved through regular meeting so that everyone was keep in the loop as progress was made ensuring very good results were obtained, with the park winning ‘Green Play’ Award status.
